Purpose

The idea for this project was to use modern data visualization techniques to create an informative website resource for understanding the demography and causality of poverty in the US Southeast. This is important because poverty is a highly complex issue that effects millions of American citizens, but is often ignored or misunderstood by the public and policymakers. A major component of public interest in any issue is a full grasp of its causation and distribution. Thus, an accessible visual resource for understanding southeastern poverty is useful both to elevate public engagement with poverty issues as well as to assist policymakers and nonprofits.
